Improving the Feedback Loop — 4 Comments

  1. This very timely as a high school coach for a newly developed private school program. I believe video analysis will be a game changer.

    Thx

  2. Nice post.

One of the most underused tools in tennis at the collegiate and professional level is analytics. Starting to see more of it on the pro tour but still not too much. I would imagine for collegiate teams there simply aren’t enough resources to use analytics in any comprehensive manner. Analytics suits some sports better than others- tennis is one of those sports that it was designed for.

  3. Yes Michael, I complete agree. Craig O’Shannessy is working hard to change that. If you are not familiar with his work you can find him at braingametennis.com – He has some really eye opening statistics that can help coaches at all levels a great deal. I think we are using this information more and more at the college level as resources are getting better and everyone seems to be looking for an “edge”! We are still way behind a lot of other sports and maybe it is because of the traditional nature of our game?

  4. Surely you know this: In my weekly one hour lessons I start the training session with asking the players, what they hope to improve in this hour. Only in 10 % of the groups there comes a concrete instruction. This happens although those players are over years in my training groups! I think, this is like going into a restaurant and telling the servant: “Serve, what you want!” 😉
