Maximizing Your Tournament Budget — 3 Comments

  1. In Southern California there are three ITF junior tournaments and many more futures and challenger tournaments, so it is much easier for juniors in Southern Cal to stay home and play qualifying for pro tournaments than to travel around the world to play ITF tournaments. While it is fun to play the Grand Slam ITF junior tournaments, I believe most of the ITF tournaments are meaningless to success on the pro tour. The futures and challenger tournaments have pro ranking points and are better indicators of where players are in terms of chances of success on the pro tour. The problem with both is that most American juniors would like to stay in school, but if players have to leave school and use correspondence school, their time is better spent playing pro tournaments.

  2. Couldn’t have said it any better. If you’re from California, you have some great affordable options.

  3. Awesome post. You provided some really great advice. I also think it’s important not to play too many tournaments as a junior because you don’t want to get burnt out of the sport. Thanks for sharing!
