Talent vs Training in Sport

Talent vs Training in Sport

Allistair McCaw

The most over used, misused, and abused word in sport is ‘Talent’.

In my opinion, the word ‘Talent’ is probably the most over-used, misused, and abused word when it comes to describing an athlete. What many don’t see is ability & hard work.

When someone calls an athlete who is good ‘talented’, it’s almost an insult. It comes down to the effort, hard work and what that athlete used with their ability.

Talent does not cover the passion, hunger and desire it takes to get to a good level. When it comes to ‘talent searching’, rather adopt ‘Hunger, attitude and effort searching’.
